There is only one Cassidy and we are so lucky she is a part
Dr. Hawman is originally from New Mexico and attended New Mexico State University for his undergrad and earned his Doctorate Degree from Ooook-lahoma! State University in 1991. Dr. Hawman holds many interests at the clinic including Small Animals, Avian and Exotic, Pocket Pets, Wildlife, and Canine Rehabilitation, just to name a few. In fact, Dr. Hawman first introduced Canine Rehabilitation featuring an underwater treadmill into our clinic in 2007(over 16 years ago!) When he’s not busy providing exceptional care to our furry, feathered, and scaly friends here at the clinic, he enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, Vicky, their 3 year old grandson, as well as their 2 dogs – Maisy, a hound whom they adopted from the Humane Society and Taya, their yellow lab. He also enjoys many outdoor activities including but not limited to camping, hiking, biking, rock crawling, fishing and getting together with the whole family on the boat.
Dr. Eckert comes to us from Michigan where he attended undergrad at Kalamazoo and completed his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 1995. His patient care focus is on dogs and cats and he has a particular affection for Rottweiler’s, Bulldogs, and Pit bulls. He and his wife, Lisa, currently have 2 kids, 3 dogs, (two of which were rescued) 2 adopted cats from the humane society and 3 horses (one of which is also a rescue). In his free time, he enjoys all aspects of wood working, including building furniture, hiking, biking, camping and hanging with his kids when they are on break from college.
Dr. McCaw is a native of Colorado, and earned both her undergrad and Doctorate degree from Colorado State University (Go Rams!) Dr. McCaw does not remember a time when she did not want to be a Veterinarian and she fulfilled that dream in 1999. She loves working with dogs and cats and firmly believes the fluffier they are, the better! When she is not spending time with her two sons, 2 dogs, and 4 cats, she enjoys traveling and shopping and getting outside to bike, hike, and snowboard, to name a few. Fun fact, Dr. McCaw has an identical twin sister.
Dr. Heather (Corbin) Johnson joined our team in May 2024 and is a graduate of UC Davis. She completed her rotating internship at the AMC and started her career practicing medicine in California for several years before moving to the Durango Area. Dr. Johnson’s interests are in internal medicine, advanced ultrasonography, and animal behavior. In her free time, she enjoys getting outdoors and exploring the surrounding area with her husband and their pity puppy Lilly and their kitty, Tofu.
Dr. Emily Haag is a graduate of Mississippi State University. In June 2024, she moved to Durango from Tennessee to join our Durango Animal Hospital. Dr. Haag enjoys wildlife, pet nutrition, preventative medicine, soft tissue surgery, and collaborating with clients to ensure the best possible outcome for their pet’s long-term health. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the Durango area with her husband, painting, and hanging with their German Shephard mix- Kovu, and their kitty- Hector. Fun Fact: Her favorite animal is a Goat!
Suzannah “Suz” joined our team in August of 2024 as our Medical Team Lead. Originally from Maine, she began her career in Shelter Medicine and Welfare over 2 decades ago. She continued her journey in vet med by branching out into various animal hospitals from the East Coast to the Southwest. As the Medical Team Lead here at DAH, she takes pride in all her team. She works hard to ensure that everyday all of our patients are 100% the priority with communication and compassion to our clients and quality and exceptional care for your fur babies.
Holding her coastal New England roots close, Suz loves spending her free time with her pets – Chama Rose, Wild Winnie and Randy Rendall. She also loves travel, art, flowers, nature, bird watching, the ocean and of course …lobster.
Cheyenne grew up on a farm in the Durango area and knew from a very young age that taking care of animals was her purpose in life. She followed that passion and became a Credentialed Vet Tech who graduated from the Bel Rea Vet Tech School in 2020. When she is not at the clinic, living out her dream, she helps her mom take care of the farm, including their 3 dogs, 3 cats, 3 goats and 5 horses. She also enjoys playing the piano and writing books. She hopes to one day become a published author.
Erin is one of our skilled veterinary technicians and is a native of Colorado. When she is not busy assisting our patients in our Canine Rehabilitation Center, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her 2 dogs, Iggy Pup and Beaker.
Tenai is one of our great technicians and is a native of Colorado. Tenai grew up in a ranching family in the Cortez area which is where her desire to get into vet med came from. She enjoys taking care of the many horses, cattle, goats, dogs, and cats that have come into her life. When she is not busy living the ranch life or taking care of patients at the clinic, she enjoys traveling, kayaking, rodeo, and photography.
Morgan grew up just outside of Kansas City, Missouri, and moved to the area in 2016. From a young age, she knew she wanted to work in the medical field, but later discovered her true passion lies in caring for animals of all shapes and sizes. Outside of the clinic, Morgan enjoys spending time with her husband, dogs and cats, hiking, gardening, and cooking.
Amanda earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science & Industry with a minor in Chemistry from Kansas State University in 2017. Having spent much of her life in the veterinary field, she is passionate about providing compassionate, high-quality care to her patients and their families. Outside of work, Amanda enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and dogs.
Janna is originally from Southern California and is currently pursuing her certification as a Veterinary Technician. Outside of work and school, Janna enjoys spending time with her family and hitting the trails on her mountain bike.
Born and raised in Colorado, Ana is a ranch girl at heart with a lifelong passion for animals and is currently pursuing her dream of becoming a licensed Veterinary Technician. She loves living on a ranch surrounded by horses, dogs, and livestock, and enjoys spending her free time riding horses, hiking, and exploring the mountains with her dogs by her side.
Drew was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and moved to the area in 2021. She is currently pursuing her Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) certification and has had a passion for working with animals her entire life.
In her free time, Drew enjoys swimming, hiking, horseback riding, and paddle boarding with her dog, Nala, always by her side.

Cherice also comes to us from Arizona. She moved here to attend Fort Lewis College where she obtained her degree in sociology. Her favorite sports teams are The New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers because in Cherice’s own words, why only have one favorite? When she is not busy being a Receptionist Extraordinaire, she enjoys getting outside as much as possible either camping, hiking or both, or spending time with her 2 kittys, Amos and Pico.
Originally from Farmington, Lorena brings creativity and enthusiasm to everything she does. In her free time, she enjoys crafting, exploring the outdoors through camping, traveling to new places, and making memories with her family.
Amanda is also one of our stellar receptionists and was born and raised in Durango. She has 3 dogs, Jackson, Buster, and Easton, and 2 cats, Tippy and Tina. She loves spending time with her husband and their 2 sons, and enjoys as much time as she can reading, gardening, camping, and traveling. Fun fact, before coming to work at Durango Animal Hospital, Amanda lived a year in Cambodia helping to teach preschoolers English and also lived in Costa Rica for awhile helping with their sea turtle program.
Peggy is a positive, energetic people-person who enjoys connecting with others and making a difference in their day. She has a creative side and loves crafting, spending time outdoors during the summer, and enjoying cozy indoor activities in the winter. Known for her caring nature and attention to detail, Peggy takes pride in staying organized and creating welcoming environments for those around her.
